19,509 Confirmed Dead in Sichuan Earthquake
Based on the report of Xinhuanet.com, 19,509 were confirmed dead and estimated number of death may exceed 50,000 in Sichuan province by May 15th China time.
A website dedicated to the death of the earthquake victims and all people who are fighting on site, and off site. They are all heroes to me. The address is http://chinaearthquakerelief.wordpress.com/
The website has also listed a number of reliable channels for foreigners to make donations. The link is http://chinaearthquakerelief.wordpress.com/2008/05/14/a-relief-fund-setup-by-american-red-cross-for-china-earthquake/
I knew a lot of people from Chinese community had made donations. But, I also knew other people not from Chinese communities are willing to make donations if they know proper channels. We were moved by Wendy Xiao, a high school student, who setup a nonprofit organization to help the kids in earthquake area. We have been thinking about what we can do to help the earthquake survivals in addition to making our own donations.
Here is a small thing that we can do to help: pass by following link to at least five of your friends or colleagues who are not Chinese or oversea Chinese and ask them to make some donations to any of the listed charity funds dedicated to Sichuan earthquake. If you can, please do so. I thank you for that.
Here is a quote from an unemployed worker blood donor in Sichuan “I have no money. But, I have blood!”.
