Quake death toll officially hits 40,075
BEIJING, May 20 (Xinhua) — The death toll from the devastating earthquake in southwest China’s Sichuan Province rose to 40,075 nationwide as of 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Information Office of the State Council.

BEIJING, May 19 (Xinhua) — The death toll in China’s devastating earthquake rose to 34,073 as of 12:00 a.m. Monday, according to the earthquake relief headquarters of the State Council.

Woman of 61 Year Old Rescued After being Buried for 164 Hours
A 61 year old woman was rescued after being burried for 164 hours in Wenchuan earthquake 3:30 pm, May 19, 2008 local time in Baichuan County. She is now in stable condition after the treatment by a medical team of the Chinese troops.
China quake death toll rises to 32,476 by 14:00 Sunday
BEIJING, May 18 (Xinhua) — The death toll from magnitude 8.0 earthquake that jolted southwest China’s Sichuan Province had risen to 32,476 nationwide as of 2 p.m. Sunday, the emergency response office under the State Council said Sunday evening, correcting a previous figure of 32,477.

China begins three-day mourning for quake victims
BEIJING, May 19 (Xinhua) — China on Monday began a three-day national mourning for the tens of thousands of people killed in a powerful earthquake which struck the country’s southwest on May 12.
At 4:58 a.m., the national flag at the Tian’anmen Square in downtown Beijing flew at half-mast after a complete flag-raising ceremony.
About 2,600 people watched the flag-raising ceremony in the square.
“I have been watching TV to know the disaster situation these days,” said Yu Huilin, a 58-year-old retired teacher. Yu just arrived in Beijing by bus in the early hours on Monday from eastern Shandong Province. Read more »
Saudi Arabia offers $60 mln aid, U.S. delivers $0.5 mln to China
BEIJING, May 15 (Xinhua) — Several more countries have offered aid to China whose southwest Sichuan province was hit by a massive earthquake on Monday.
Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz has decided to donate 50 million U.S. dollars in cash and 10 million dollars worth of relief materials. Read more »

BEIJING, May 16 (Xinhua) — The death toll from the 7.8-magnitude earthquake in southwest China’s Sichuan Province rose to 22,069 nationwide as of 2 p.m. Friday, while 168,669 people were injured, according to the emergency response office of the State Council. Read more »
19,509 Confirmed Dead in Sichuan Earthquake
Based on the report of Xinhuanet.com, 19,509 were confirmed dead and estimated number of death may exceed 50,000 in Sichuan province by May 15th China time.
